The organisation
BalticFem is a non governmental inter regional organisation, based in Norrtälje, Sweden. The organisation was founded in the fall of 2002 by a group of experienced and committed people who has worked in the field of gender equality for quite some time.
The main aims of BalticFem are:
- Our commitment to gender equality - we believe that a just and prospering society is only achieved if all members in it, both women and men, have the same rights, obligations and possibilities.
- Our interest in employment and entrepreneurship - only if people can support themselves through a legal income of their own, can we achieve a truly sustainable development that benefits all citizens.
- Our knowledge of the Baltic Sea Region and the specific challenges and advantages of this, our home region.
We have the knowledge, resources and possibilities to manage projects of many different sizes. BalticFem aims to use modern and innovative technologies, such as the Internet, in order to be able to utilize the allocated resources for each project and activity in the best and most efficient way. One understanding we have, is the importance of using a process oriented way with our kind of projects. This in order to benefit from the experiences of all actors involved and the Internet can indeed be a useful tool there.
Another area where we make use of the Internet is in the support and developement of networks working for gender equality issues around the Baltic Sea. One of our prime objectives in starting this organisation is the need we see for coordinating the efforts made by many organisations in this area and to help raise the awareness of and putting focus on gender equality.
